What makes a good leather work boot? The answer, according to one of the many farmers who have helped Skellerup create and refine its Red Band leather boots, is grip, ankle support and comfort.

Waikato farmer Steve van der Valk has been using the boots since their launch three years ago.

Feedback from Steve and several other farmers has been an integral part of Red Band’s move into leather footwear as well as traditional rubber boots.

As Skellerup National Manager Perry Davis points out, it was farmers who originally encouraged the company to develop leather Red Bands, and it has also been farmers who have driven the latest design improvements.

Steve, who farms near Cambridge in the Waikato, says good grip underfoot has always been a top priority when it comes to work boots.

Introduced by Skellerup earlier this year, the new anti-slip, sure-grip rubber outsole on the Red Band leather Lace Up and Slip On boots, gets a big tick from Steve. Just as important, however, is wearability, especially when they’re worn all day, every day.

“They were light and comfortable right from the start. There was minimal ‘break-in’ time and I can wear them for hours without my feet getting sore or tired. They’re probably the most comfortable boots I’ve ever worn,” says Steve.

He has no issues wearing leather Red Bands on the quad bike or tractor, and uses them on his road bike as well.

“I like the locking system for the laces even though it took me a little while to get used to unlocking the laces before I took the boots off.“

Steve says he would recommend the Red Band work boots and will definitely buy another pair when his current ones are worn out.

Perry Davis says farmers like Steve have done a great job helping the company design and manufacture a well-made, quality boot that offers real value for money.

Lace Up and Pull On leather Red Band work boots are the first and only footwear designed specifically for New Zealand farmers. As well as the enhanced rubber sole, the latest design upgrade boasts a broader fit and extra protective features like the penetration-resistant midsole in the safety models.
