Turning dreams into reality

Turning dreams into reality

1 April 2021

Late last year the Farm Source Rewards programme was relaunched and farmers were introduced to Dream Rewards, a personalised concierge service that lets farmers use their Reward Dollars to buy almost anything they can dream of.

Farmers all over the country are using their Rewards to pay for things like exploring New Zealand, home renovations, honeymoons, surgery, boats and spa pools.

But one of the most heartwarming stories came from a competition winner. The Dream Rewards launch kicked off with a contest where farmers shared how they would spend $5,000 Reward Dollars. The winners were David Van Den Beuken and Jenny Buckley, who’ve been sharemilking on a 200-hectare farm near Hamilton for 14 years.

Jenny says when she saw the competition advertised, she knew straight away what she wanted to do if she and Dave won.

“The first thing that came to me was the opportunity to give our staff a holiday. We have three amazing people who work for us – Dennis, Jan and Goldie. They all work really hard, so we just wanted to say thanks and let them know how much we appreciate what they do.”

Jenny says when she found out they’d won they called a staff meeting. The mood in the room was tense.

“The staff originally thought we were going broke or they were in trouble. But when we told them we had won the competition they were so happy. They were in shock at first and it took a while for the news to sink in! Another amazing and very generous bonus is that when Patricia and Paul [the farm owners] found out we had won they added an extra $2,000.”

Dennis and Jan are from the Philippines and usually save up their leave to travel back to see family and friends every year.

“When COVID hit, not only could they not go, but they had to send the money they had been saving to go to Queenstown back to their families in the Philippines who had lost their jobs.” says Jenny.

Dennis and Jan flew to Queenstown for five nights and did the shotover jet and gondolas while Goldie jetted to Stewart Island, somewhere she has always wanted to go but never had the chance.

To top it off, the Cambridge Farm Source store paid the concierge fee and the concierge gave Dennis and his wife Giselle’s two-year-old daughter Zoe a backpack with toys and colouring-in books to take with her on holiday.
